colorful checkered rug from north eastern Morocco (morrocan rug). A central design based on the checker board motif is bordered by a darker area dominated by the ‘open cross’ Berber symbol. Peach and soft pink hues combine with charcoal and tangerine. Worn to the base, and with plenty of nibbling and fraying at the end and edges this mid century rug is a gorgeous one of a kind piece. Like all my rugs this rug is also homemade rug.
- collect them from villages close to mine. Until age 60, girls wove their dowry carpet themselves. They wove carpets of wool produced from their life buoy. Then they boiled the wool with vegetables according to the color they want to dye. They also attract fathers based on their feelings of happiness, sadness, hopes, desires and plans. Thus, each carpet has its own composition and unique story.
