This is a colorful boujad rug which is a red vintage boujad rug; atlas rug that would brighten any space, and add a feeling of freshness and a light, airy touch to the room. The versatility of the design of this Amazigh rug adds texture and color to an organic, tribal, or to modern design style.
Boujad rugs are Berber Amazigh rug pile rugs that are handwoven using natural wool fibers and vegetable dyes. Newly handwoven rugs will have vibrant colors, such as reds, oranges, pinks, and/or purples. Older vintage rugs, on the other hand, may have lovely washed pastel tones.
The vintage boujad rug is presumed to have been created in Morocco during the 15th century. These Boujad rugs were considered a status symbol among Moroccans. Moroccan rugs are highly valued for their design and craftsmanship.
Each vintage boujad rug is handwoven by women in Haouz, Morocco, between the Middle Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. With the use of traditional Berber designs and motifs, each rug tells a unique story.
